Lakeside sophomore Jack Lane set one state record and barely missed a second as he swept the gold in the 100-yard butterfly and the 200-yard freestyle at the State Swimming Championships held at Westminster this past weekend.
Lane, who set a pair of DeKalb County Swimming Championship records, had a state record time of 48.86 in the preliminaries of the butterfly as he topped the field. He then swam his second All-American time of the event with a clocking of 49.25 to claim the gold in the finals.
He was 2.53 seconds ahead of his closest competitor as he touched the wall.
He came up .81 seconds short of his second state record as he swam another All-American time of 1:38.98 to capture gold in the 200 freestyle. Lane’s performances helped Lakeside to finish ninth overall in the meet with 96 points.
Andy Gibbons’ fifth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke helped Dunwoody to a 15th place finish in the overall standings with 51 points. Chamblee got a pair of top 15 finishes in the 200-spand 400-yard relay events to finish 30th overall with 14 points.
