Helping hands reached to DeKalb County flood victims through The Champion Newspaper’s “Champions to the Rescue” effort.
In less than a week, friends, neighbors, Champion staffers and our publishers responded to our appeal, raising $700. Thirty $20 and $25 gift cards were purchased at local home improvement stores and donated to the Stone Mill Manor Homeowners’ Association. Stone Mill Manor in Lithonia was one of the hardest hit areas in DeKalb County on Oct. 19 when flooding caused many homes to be inundated in three and four feet of water.
Judith Rose, president of the Stone Mill Manor Homeowners’ Association who accepted the donation, said the cards were much needed by affected homeowners who are still awaiting word on specific amounts of federal assistance and are ready to begin rebuilding their lives.
