DeKalb Police searching for rape suspect

DeKalb County Police are searching for a man responsible for the sexual assault of a woman at St. Timothy United Methodist Church in Stone Mountain.

The incident happened Feb. 26 at 3:30 p.m., at the church on the 5360 block of Memorial Drive, according to DeKalb police spokeswoman Mekka Parish.

The woman, 53, was working alone in an office at the church when she went to the door and cracked it open, and the suspect forced his way in, Parish said. The victim was on the phone with a friend at the time of the attack, and the friend called 911 and then went to the church.

Parish said it is not known why the victim went to the door. The woman is recovering from undisclosed injuries at an area hospital and is in stable condition, Parish said.

The suspect is described as a Black male, approximately 6-feet-2 inches tall, 180 pounds and in his 40s or 50s.

Anyone with any information regarding the incident is asked to contact the DeKalb Police Special Victims Unit at (770) 724-7710.

Please pray for the victim and for our community. What is this world coming to when a person enters the church to commit his crime. We must work together to locate this criminal and send him to jail.

did you ever think it may be the Pastor who opened the door, afterall it is a church with a female Pastor...that is what churches are there for,to be there when we need them.No one expects someone less than an animal to be on the other side.

Agree. The Parish statement seems to suggest that the victim knew the assailant or should not have opened the door. Being the only person there, maybe it was her job to do that!

"Parish said it is not known why the victim went to the door"

why does this matter? this sounds suspiciously like the victim shoulders a portion of the blame for opening the door to a person. it was a church, after all, visitors arrive at their doorsteps every day.
