Three people were killed and six others injured in a crash Tuesday, Oct. 13, during rush hour on Stone Mountain Freeway. All nine victims were in the same vehicle and worked for Southern Company or Georgia Power.
The driver of the van and two passengers were killed. The driver was Robert Harold Clinton Jr., 60, and the passengers who died were Ollie Benny Stephens Jr., 49, and Cindy Fitzgerald, 54.
DeKalb County Police has not released the names of the other victims. All were taken to either Grady Memorial Hospital or Atlanta Medical Center with critical injuries. One of the passengers has since been released from the hospital.
Witnesses told police the driver of a Dodge Stratus was changing lanes and hit the back corner of the van, causing it to lose control and overturn. The accident happened in the eastbound lanes, near the Hugh Howell Road exit, police said.
The driver of the Stratus is James Miles, 55, of Loganville. No charges have been filed against Miles, and the accident is still under investigation, according to police. Miles was not injured in the accident.
We were in a roll over wreck coming westbound 2 years ago. Driver crossed into our lane on the "crook" in the road after Stone Mtn. Park traffic comes in. There have been a lot of accidents-fatal-both ways.
I pray for the families of the victims and for all to recover.
