A DeKalb County Police officer was arrested Jan. 4 in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct against a 15-year-old female.
Quevius O. Thornton, 29, was arrested and charged with two counts of statutory rape, one count of aggravated child molestation and one count of child molestation. Thornton is being held in the DeKalb County Jail.
The investigation began after information was brought to the attention of the police department earlier this week, according to police spokesman Jason Gagnon.
“Once these allegations were brought to light swift action was taken,” said Police Chief William O’Brien. “This type of officer misconduct is inexcusable. It’s inherent in order to maintain the public’s trust that our officers serve with great character and honor.”
Thornton, who joined the department in 2008, has been placed on administrative leave pending termination.
Sad to say, this fallen officer and every other one like him is just a small fish in a superstretched pond. There are approximately three million child victims according to the Child Molestation Research & Prevention Institute and 1 in 30 molestors. And many people are blind to the fact that a child within their own home may be a victim. National statistics say 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are likely to be sexually abused by their 18th birthday (Darkness to Light).
Sex specific therapist should be employed for all personnel in government positions. We need to know as much about these people who are leading, serving, and protecting as much as possible....not like that really matter much...unless a progressive grass root take charge...but this I do agree...fits [sleezy]... and there are tests out there can point out this sleezy character in individuals...
We should push for this demand, especially for people who are working with children...email me: leneanpriester@yahoo.com. I am Lenean Priester!
Tell us Public Safety Director Miller, is it proper for Uniformed DeKalb County Police Officers to be in Sleezy Bars surrounded by Video Poker Machines having a free lunch ?
This practice is nothing less than a disgrace, those Officers involved cheapen the Badge that they wear. What happened to Protect and Serve ?
If you as a Citizen have wondered why there are so many Video Poker Machines all over South DeKalb, now you know !
Please allow this man the benefit of the doubt, until such time as he is proven guilty. If he is guilty, there is really no punishment sufficient to the crime of abusing a child.
Evidently they are not getting good training in morals and if they are they definitely don't know how to use it. I am not surprised of the so=many incidents and misconducts I read about officers of the law.
Most of them are using their so-called power for the wrong reason and will evidently land in jail or someone will send them to hell just like the rest of the bad criminals. I am not surprised at all!!!! I read about them every week.
