A Church’s Chicken employee was shot and killed during a robbery as he was trying to protect two female employees from the gunmen, according to DeKalb Police.
Gary Andrews was shot several times in the head during the robbery at the restaurant at 3632 Flakes Mill Road in south DeKalb County on Dec. 18, according to DeKalb Police spokesman Jason Gagnon. Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two masked gunmen entered the restaurant at approximately 8:45 p.m. and forced three employees to the back in an attempt to get into a safe, Gagnon said. Andrews was between the other employees and the gunmen when one of the men opened fire.
The men “got away with some petty cash from the registers but I don’t think they got into the safe,” Gagnon said.
The two suspects fled on foot and were last seen headed toward a nearby apartment complex, Gagnon said.
