Church's Chicken employee killed during robbery

A Church’s Chicken employee was shot and killed during a robbery as he was trying to protect two female employees from the gunmen, according to DeKalb Police.

Gary Andrews was shot several times in the head during the robbery at the restaurant at 3632 Flakes Mill Road in south DeKalb County on Dec. 18, according to DeKalb Police spokesman Jason Gagnon. Andrews was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two masked gunmen entered the restaurant at approximately 8:45 p.m. and forced three employees to the back in an attempt to get into a safe, Gagnon said. Andrews was between the other employees and the gunmen when one of the men opened fire.

The men “got away with some petty cash from the registers but I don’t think they got into the safe,” Gagnon said.

The two suspects fled on foot and were last seen headed toward a nearby apartment complex, Gagnon said.

No its not due to the economy, just like that nice young man worked the suspects could have done the same. Sometimes u have 2 work two or 3 jobs but to do wrong is not an option. .where is love for mankind?we are forgetting about God. When we do this some there is no reason to harm or take ones life. May God contiue to bless the family and that justice will be served. I did not eat there often but I remember that young man who waited on me in the drive thru. He was always pleasant and courteous, raised up right. A good young man maybe too good.again ggod please continue to help this family and community.

He gave his life for others. Shouldn't there be some kind of public recognition? Is Church's Chicken doing anything for the family? He also gave his life to protect that corporation.

Sounds strange. Why shoot the man? Could it have been more than a robbery, as in a vendetta or revenge killing?

So sad, a poor man get killed for petty cash. Is life worth that much nowadays. I feel bad for the man who got killed and his family. I pray for who ever killed the poor man a justice and for them to get caught soon. Is the bad economy is the culprit or just a random jobless man who have no heart and just be out there trying to kill somebody for some petty cash.
