DeKalb County inmate found dead in cell

A DeKalb County inmate was found unresponsive in his cell at the DeKalb County jail Sept. 28, according to a media release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.

Edward Lee Douglas, 49, was discovered on the floor of his cell by the detention officer assigned to his area. The officer immediately began CPR until the jail’s emergency medical staff arrived, according to the release. Douglas was transported to DeKalb Medical where he was pronounced dead at 9:27 am.

Douglas’ family was notified late Sept. 28. A routine investigation is being conducted by the sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards and the DeKalb County medical examiner to determine the cause of death.

If as Cisi alleges, the DeKalb County Jail is degenerate, inhumane and godless, well GOOD ! The inmates are getting what they deserve.

That is not correct Cisi. I was a trustee in Dekalb County Jail (not that I am proud of being there) and I was on Mitchell's detail, and periodically I was assigned to 2SE detail. Both of those details ensure that intake tanks are regularly stocked with ice cold water. In addition, I worked on the kitchen detail, and one of my duties was ensuring that every POD had adequate water with ice. In addition, I received my medication regularly, and my detail officer (Mitchell) ensured that each of his trustees got their medication. I am not proud to have been in the jail, but I have to admit, that inmate services was good --at least while I was a trustee -- in 2011. And remember, it's jail -- not the Marriott Marquis. When you go to jail, you lose a certain amount of freedoms and luxuries.

This might not happen if the Dekalb County, Ga jail workers gave the inmates water! Yeah, they let people sit and desperately need water-they do not care the slightest bit either. They also regularly deny people their doctor prescribed medications! Ask anyone if they thought they were going to die of thirst or from not receiving necessary meds that has spent time in the Dekalb County jail. You'll get the same answer every time.
