A DeKalb County jury Sept. 25 indicted a Stone Mountain woman who is accused of raping a minor, then giving birth to his child.
Janelle Goforth, 33, has been charged with two counts of statutory rape for allegedly “engaging in sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 16.” The alleged victim, who was 15 when the incident occurred in April 2011, was reportedly living with his aunt at the time.
Currently, Goforth has six other children living with relatives, officials stated. She was arrested in March after she gave birth to her child, which was allegedly fathered by the minor, and has remained in the DeKalb County jail since then. Erik Burton, a spokesman for the DeKalb District Attorney’s Office, said Goforth was taken into custody after giving birth.
District Attorney Robert James would not comment on the details of the case or whether the victim would eventually be able to gain custody of the child.
An arraignment date for Goforth has not yet been set.
