One arrested, one sought in Gresham Park shooting

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office fugitive squad is searching for a second suspect in a July 2 shooting at Gresham Park where two people were killed.

The park is located at 3113 Gresham Road in south DeKalb after “some sort of altercation in the parking lot between the deceased men and several others,” said Mekka Parish, a spokesperson for the DeKalb County Police Department.

One victim died at the scene and the other was transported to a local hospital where he died, Parish said.

An arrest warrant has been issued for 20-year-old Kendarius Lamonte Harris of Atlanta, charging him with the murders of Stanley Hill and Kelvin Parks, according to a statement by the Sheriff’s Office.

Harris is described as 5-feet-11 and weighing approximately 180 pounds, and the Sheriff’s Office said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The other suspect, Anthony Demario Lewis, 20, of Atlanta, was arrested July 3 and charged with two counts of murder.

A $2,000 reward is being offered by Crime Stoppers for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Harris. Individuals with information on Harris should call (404) 577-TIPS (8477) or visit the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimestoppersatlanta.org.

The South Precinct Commander was touted as a Marine that got the job done. Have not seen or heard anything out of him. I guess the Fire Dept is so short that they cannot enforce the Maxinum Number of Patrons in bars also. This we're short of fire and police routine is kinda old around south dekalb. Bars that friends of mine tell me are dangerous have dekalb police working the doors. That don't sound right.

DeKalb County had 692,000 residents, not including all the illegal immigrants on Buford Highway. If the county's police force was properly staffed with 1.7-2 officers per 1,000 residents, there would be somewhere between 1176-1384 officers. Unfortunately due to the fact that the county balances it's budget on the backs of the police, fire and schools, they have about 700 officers and are loosing more and more well qualified officers on a daily basis. They have gotten to the point now where they are hiring less qualified officers because they cannot staff with qualified candidates because the county will not pay them well or give them the benefits they deserve. Blame the CEO and the BOC, not the police or Cheif O'Brien. He's doing the best he can with what he's got, but the BOC and the CEO have him by the short and curlies.

We do not see the Police except when they ride down a main street. Code enforcement at bars and night clubs does not exist. Whiskey bottles litter our streets and curbs and gambling is everywhere. Who is incharge of the DeKalb Police?
