Fire destroys Lithonia salvage business

A metal salvage business on Rogers Lake Road in Lithonia was completely destroyed in a fire this morning, June 6, according to DeKalb County Fire Rescue Chief Eddie O’Brien.

The department responded at 4:36 a.m. and the fire already was well involved, O’Brien said. The road was blocked while firefighters fought the blaze so they could get to the water supply, but the road has since been reopened, O’Brien said.

No one was injured and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined. An investigation is ongoing, O’Brien said.

Ellis, Floyd to talk transportation with residents

DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis will join Decatur Mayor Bill Floyd to field calls from county residents June 13, 7:30 p.m., as part of a “wireside chat” about the July 31 regional transportation referendum.

The chat is designed to provide a convenient way for thousands of residents to talk to local officials about the upcoming transportation referendum and address questions about the list of projects. On July 31, residents from the 10-county metropolitan Atlanta area will have the opportunity to vote on the referendum, which would fund $8.5 billion in transportation improvements through a regional 1 percent sales tax.

All questions will be answered live during the call or after in writing. Residents are asked to register for the Wireside Chat online at www.wiresidechats.com or by calling (404) 463-3227.

If you have any doubts regarding the referendum I strongly encourage you to attend these "wireside chats" as they are very informative. I have been able to take part of one of the past "wireside chats" and from the information that I have been able to gather I feel even more informed and more inclined to vote YES for this referendum. The Regional Transportation Referendum is integral for the continued growth of our city.
