Middle school teacher indicted on sex charges

A DeKalb County grand jury on May 24 indicted a Tucker Middle School teacher on 22 counts, including child molestation, statutory rape and sexual battery.

Almarcus Thomas is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl while she was a student at Tucker Middle School. He was indicted on eight counts of aggravated child molestation and five counts of statutory rape, among other charges.

In addition to the juvenile, there are two adult victims, said District Attorney Robert James. Thomas was indicted on invasion of privacy charges against the adult victims, James said.

The incidents involving the student occurred from February through August 2011, according to the indictment.

“These alleged crimes involve a man who preyed on a minor while in a position of authority and respect as an educator,” James said. “This 22-count indictment reflects a man who molested, abused and took advantage of women and children. We fully intend to prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law and seek justice for all those who were affected by these crimes.”
