PDK to host Good Neighbor Day air show and open house
The annual Good Neighbor Day Air Show and Open House will take place May 12, noon–5 p.m., at DeKalb Peachtree Airport (PDK), at 2000 Airport Road in Atlanta.
This year’s show will feature booths, exhibits and food. Participants in the air show include Team AeroShell, Gary Ward in the MX2, and U.S. Aerobatic Champion Skip Stewart in his super-charged biplane.
The air show also includes formation flying by Team RV, Circus Maximus, Neal Darnell in the Flash Fire Jet Truck, and several single-plane acts including Greg Koontz in the super decathlon and Greg Connell flying the super pits special.
Restored antique planes will be on display, including World War II warriors and commemorative air force airplanes. Also, DeKalb County’s fire trucks, police vehicles, ambulances and helicopters will be on display.
Admission is free of charge and parking is $5 per vehicle with access available through Airport Road via Clairmont Road.
DeKalb County mobile career center makes several stops
DeKalb’s Mobile Career Center, also known as the county’s “jobs bus,” is scheduled to be stationed at various locations during the next few days. On Thursday, May 3, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., it will be at Scott Candler Library, 2644 McAfee Road, Decatur. On Monday, May 7, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., it will be at Clarkston Library, 951 N. Indian Creek Drive, Clarkston, and on Tuesday, May 8, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., it will be at Atlanta VA Medical Center, 1670 Clairmont Road, Decatur.
The mobile unit provides residents with job search assistance, adult workshops and training, resume writing and interviewing tips. Businesses are also able to use the mobile unit for recruiting, pre-employment screenings, interviewing and training.
DeKalb Chamber of Commerce announces First Monday luncheon
The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce will hold its First Monday lunch May 7 from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the Ravinia Club and Spa in Atlanta.
The event will feature House Rep. Stacey Abrams and Sen. Emanuel Jones, who will give an overview of the 2012 legislative session.
The last day to RSVP for the event is Friday, May 4.
