Dunwoody Police looking for forgery suspect

The Dunwoody Police Department has secured a warrant for 46-year-old Carlos Sanchez Esquivel of Marietta, charging him with first-degree forgery.

Police allege that the suspect scammed Yovany Baltazar-Cardenas, 27, who had received traffic citations from the Dunwoody Police in September 2011. Prior to the victim’s court date, Esquivel told the victim, according to a police statement, not to show up in court because she was in the country illegally. Esquivel stated that he worked as a translator for the courts, and that he would be able to take care of the citations.

According to the police statement, Esquivel obtained copies of the victim’s citations and gave her falsified court documents in return. The victim was fraudulently charged more than $1,000 in court and probation fees.

When the victim did not appear in court as required by the citations issued in September 2011, she was arrested for failure to appear, according to police.

The Dunwoody Police Department is working to determine if there are additional persons who have been victimized by Esquivel. Anyone with information regarding this suspect or similar incidents is asked to contact Det. Ronny Delima at (678) 382-6914 or ronny.delima@dunwoodyga.gov.

DeKalb County jobs fair set for Saturday

DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis and the department of Workforce Development will host a job fair Saturday, April 14, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Manuel Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur.

The event offers job seekers the opportunity to meet with representatives from various companies, county departments and county contractors.

During the fair, job seekers can participate in self-help workshops, complete and submit applications, and receive valuable information on resources and services available to citizens looking for employment.

DeKalb Schools to break ground on Chamblee Charter High School building project

DeKalb County School Superintendent Cheryl Atkinson and the county school district will kick off construction for the replacement of Chamblee Charter High School with a ground-breaking ceremony on April 16 at 2 p.m.

The construction project is slated to be completed in two phases. Phase I includes demolition of a portion of the existing school building and the adjacent Highland Garden Apartments and the construction of the new academic building. Once this phase is complete, students will move into the newly constructed academic building when they return from winter break during the 2013-14 school year.

Phase II will commence with the demolition of the remaining portion of the existing school building and the construction of the fine arts wing, auditorium, natatorium and gymnasium by the start of the 2014-15 school year.

The school is located at 3688 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road in Chamblee.
