Two DeKalb County children are home after being bitten by a dog on April 5.
According to the DeKalb County Police Department, the owner of the dog was walking the animal on a leash when the two children, ages 6 and 7, approached the dog and began petting it.
The incident occurred at 3:30 p.m. on Big Springs Road in unincorporated Decatur.
“At some point, [the] two kids were bitten by the dog,” said Mekka Parish, police spokeswoman. One child was bitten in the face and the other suffered bites and lacerations.
Both victims were transported to Egleston Children’s Hospital and later released.
“The dog's owner has turned it over to Animal Services and once the investigation is over it will likely be put down,” Parish said.
The case is still under investigation, so no charges have been filed yet.
