Lithonia man sentenced on federal drug charges

A Lithonia man was sentenced March 30 in federal court on drug and bribery charges.

Akil Scott, 32, was sentenced to serve 14 months in federal prison on charges of attempted possession with intent to distribute cocaine and to accepting a bribe of $350 to facilitate the distribution of cocaine inside the Fulton County Jail, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office in Atlanta. Scott’s prison term will be followed by two years of supervised release.

According to court documents, on Aug. 11, 2010, Scott, while he was a detention officer at the Fulton County Jail, accepted $350 from an undercover agent to deliver seven grams of a substance he believed to be cocaine to a specific inmate inside the jail. Immediately after leaving the undercover agent, Scott took the substance to the jail and delivered it to the inmate.

Scott is one of four former Fulton County law enforcement officers who have been convicted recently on similar charges. One of the men, Marvie Trevino Dingle Jr., also is from Lithonia.

Dingle, 35, is a former Fulton County deputy sheriff. He pleaded guilty Nov. 8, 2011, to two counts of attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine inside and outside the county jail and two counts of extortion under color of official right for accepting more than $2,000 to smuggle drugs into the jail and to protect a drug transaction outside of the jail, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.  He is scheduled to be sentenced on April 3.

Hey Flyboy...not sure if it is your ignorance of the law or just your ignorance and intolerance showing, but the federal system has guidelines that are followed when sentencing and other factors as well. Has nothing to do with the fact that Holder is the AG, but I'm sure the facts and truth only serve to muddy your reality. Get off the faux "news", "it kills your brain cells son, it kills your brain cells..." - Morgan Freeman as Joe Clark...lol.

Only 14 months ????? Where were the U.S. Attorneys on this one? Oh, I forgot. They work for Eric Holder. That explains it all.
