Fire breaks out in east Atlanta warehouse

DeKalb firefighters responded late Monday, March 12, to a fire at Superior Rigging and Erecting on Woodstock Road near Moreland Avenue in east Atlanta. When firefighters arrived at approximately 10:43 p.m., they saw heavy smoke and flames coming from a warehouse. They were warned not to enter because of explosions inside the warehouse, according to fire department officials. Firefighters heard explosions that they later confirmed were from propane tanks.  There were no injuries to fire department personnel or to the public. Crews were still on the scene at 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Mobile Career Center schedule announced

DeKalb’s Mobile Career Center, also known as the county’s “jobs bus,” will be stationed at Wesley Chapel Library, 2861 Wesley Chapel Road, Decatur, until 4 p.m. today and at Eastlake Family YMCA, 275 East Lake Boulevard, SE, Atlanta until 7:30 p.m. today. Tomorrow, March 14, the mobile center will be at Stonecrest Library, 3123 Klondike Road, Lithonia, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. On Thursday, March 15, the center will be at Tucker-Reid H. Cofer Library, 5234 LaVista Road, Tucker, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and at The Center for Pan Asian Community Services, 3510 Shallowford Road, NE, Atlanta, 6-7:30 p.m.

The mobile unit also provides residents with a range of services, including job search assistance, adult workshops and training, resume writing and interviewing tips. Businesses are also able to use the mobile unit for recruiting, pre-employment screenings, interviewing and training.  

CEO Town Hall Meetings announced

The county has announced that there will be a CEO Town Hall Meeting today, March 13, 6 – 7:30 p.m., at Eastlake Family YMCA at 275 East Lake Blvd., Atlanta. Another will be held Thursday, March 15, 6-7:30 p.m. at The Center for Pan Asian Community Services, 3510 Shallowford Road NE, Atlanta.
