Public hearing on cell phone towers set for today

Residents opposed to cell phone towers on school property have a chance to voice their opinion to state legislators today.

House Bill No. 1197, which would prevent the placement of cell phone towers on DeKalb County public school property will be the subject of a public hearing before a house committee

11 a.m.-1 p.m. today in room 606 of the Coverdell Legislative Office Building, 18 Capitol Square SW in Atlanta.

 Lithonia to host mobile career center on March 9

The DeKalb County Mobile Career Center will be in the Lithonia Plaza on Friday, March 9, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m.  The mobile center, known as the “Jobs Bus,” has 13 computers and staff available to help with resumes and job searches. 

The center also has a private interview area, high-speed satellite internet connection, printer, scanner, copier, and a fully handicap-accessible workstation.

Program to give teens financial and college reality check

DeKalb students in grades 7-12 can receive a dose of reality after high school through Reality Check and Campus Reality.

Reality Check is a 15-station financial literacy simulation demonstrating the financial realities of life after graduation. Campus Reality is a two-hour program that will simulate the process of preparing for the behind-the-scenes of college life.

The program is set for Saturday, March 10, 9 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts & Community Center, 3181 Rainbow Drive, Decatur.

The programs are sponsored by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, the DeKalb County 4-H Youth Development Program, and the DeKalb County Youth Commission.
