Stone Mountain, Lithonia forfeit football wins

The football programs at Lithonia and Stone Mountain have forfeited a total of nine games for using ineligible players, according to DeKalb athletics spokesman Mark Brock. The decision was made by the Georgia High School Association.

The forfeits knock both teams out of playoff contention in Region 6-AAAA. Stone Mountain was 6-3 and was enjoying its best season since 2004. The Pirates could have qualified for a state playoff berth with an upset win on Friday over Southwest DeKalb. Lithonia was 4-5 before the forfeits.

Stone Mountain, now 1-8, was forced to forfeit wins against Miller Grove, Forsyth Central, Lakeside and North Springs. The Pirates’ win over Lithonia was considered a double forfeit because both sides used ineligible players.

Lithonia, now 0-9, forfeited wins against Forsyth Central, Chamblee, Miller Grove and Lakeside.

The forfeits change the playoff picture in 6-AAAA. Southwest DeKalb, Marist and Tucker all have qualified for the state playoffs. The fourth seed from the region now will be determined by the winner of Friday’s game between Miller Grove and Chamblee. Before the forfeits, Miller Grove was not in contention for the final playoff spot.

The GHSA did not reveal which players were ineligible or why they were ineligible.

Look, what happend is in the past, we (SMHS) did not cheat, the player didnt know, and it wasnt a problem till we started winning. Check tucker because there allstar Chris Kingsberry lives in my nieghborhood and i stay two doors down from SMHS. But its not a problem, because we shoked yall this year nd its gone happen agian next season. Thats a promise from the future #1 LB/FB in Dekalb County

i am a grad og stonemountain of 85 there lot of school chet wvery year getting way of it they dont look at proplems like tucker and columbia basketball geting kid to moved in they schools cant win with kids living in there area

When will the cheating stop in Dekalb? It's become embarrassing now and hard for me to admit that I not only work at a Dekalb County Public School, but I also graduated from one. Is cheating really necessary in high school football? Is it that serious that livelihood has to be sacrificed? It is sad and I hope that the coaches get what they wanted because the children did not. Coming from a high school like Southwest Dekalb that boasts a string athletic program even to this very day, I laugh a little when I wonder what SWD would have been like if we had to cheat in such a manner. What a disgrace! I mean dang, if Columbia's sorry team loss honestly why couldn't they? Sorry Columbia fans ya'll's team is awful.

the region was weak.didn't need to cheat to be good.neither program has ever been good.football wise.region champ's first round playoff's you name it.nothing!!! put columbia,mcnair,cross key's avondale, cedargrove,druidhill's,clarkston in these school have no pride. They will be looser every single year.check the record.people use dekalb county for the magnet program.grades 6through 8th. go big blue S.W .D!!! pride then now and forever.class of 88 alumni.
