Two DeKalb County police officers arrested

Two DeKalb County Police officers were arrested Nov. 15 and charged with battery and violation of the oath of office, a felony, police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said.

Officers Arthur Parker and Blake Norwood, both with the department for three years, are accused of beating a teenage burglary suspect while the suspect has handcuffed. The officers were asked to drive Travarrius B. Williams from the South Precinct to the DeKalb County Jail.

Before the officers left the precinct with Williams, there was an exchange of words between Williams and one of the officers, according to police. Williams then allegedly spit at the officers. The officers then drove behind a building in another part of the precinct, took Williams out of the car and began kicking and punching him, police said.

A third officer who was ending his shift witnessed the attack and told his supervisor.

Williams had been arrested for a burglary at 704 Wellington Court in Decatur. After being interviewed by burglary detectives, Parker and Norwood were asked to drive Williams to the jail.

Williams was taken to Grady Hospital but was not seriously injured, Parish said. The officers are on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, she said.

I would like to talk with some one about this case, I'm a victim of Officer Norwoods pattern of violence, I was arrested in Feb of 2011 by this rogue cop, I would like to see him in prison.

I know the father of the teen. First off he was not the burglar. This kids was with 2 female friends in a different complex at the time of the burglary. They say his injuries were not serious, but broken ribs and a chipped tooth are serious enough for me for just being black and walking down the street.

wrong is wrong and beating the kid was wrong but what happens when its your house that is broken into. These kids are totally out of control and it is proven. I have been robbed, my house broken into, and I despise thieves. However, I believe in fair and just so I wont say anything negative.

Wow and they get paid nice to know if you have a badge in DeKalbe you can beat suspects and get a paid vacation WTF Why don't they all beat a kid in cuffs! I want my time off with pay!!!! I hope this child's parents SUE! If I got arrested for calling an officer a name Why are these men not in Jail if you were to hand cuff a officer and do the same you would spend the rest of your life behind bars. If not life easily 10 years!!!!!! As far as I am concerned the officers should do the same time the kid would have if the rolls were reversed

I totally disagree. I am a resident in DeKalb County and I know how overzealous DeKalb police can be toward young black men.We are judging before we know the whole story. The public only know what the police are saying and they have to cover their butt. I'm a true believer to their two sides to every story. How do we know the young man spat in the officer face or even the one that broke into the house. They said he is a suspect meaning they think he did it, but beating him is totally wrong as a parent I thought what if that was my son. what if it was your child would you still feel the same way?
