FOOTBALL

Stephenson 20, ML King 0: Raymond Sanders rushed for 137 yards and a touchdown for the Jaguars (7-0, 4-0 Region 2-AAAAA). Jordan Tarver went 6-for-7 for 109 yards and a touchdown. The defense, led by Michael Thornton, sacks ML King quarterback Cameron Myers seven times. Mack Brown rushed for 103 yards for the Lions (6-1, 3-1). The Jaguars face undefeated Union Grove Friday for sole possession of first place.

Stone Mountain 39, North Springs 6: Jhyree Harris went 17-for-29 for 302 yards passing, two touchdowns and an interception for the Pirates (6-1, 5-1 Region 6-AAAA). DeAntonyo Murray had five catches for 65 yards, including both touchdown receptions. Michael Gilbert rushed for 209 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. The Pirates can clinch a playoff spot with a win against Tucker on Friday.

St. Pius 40, Washington 14: Cole Moon rushed for 165 yards and two touchdowns for the Golden Lions (7-0, 4-0 Region 5-AAA, Div. B). George Kennedy added 110 yards and two scores on 11 carries. The Golden Lions amassed 384 yards total offense.

Avondale 38, GAC 21: Max Thompson had 225 yards total offense as the Blue Devils (4-3, 2-2 Region 6-AA) remain in playoff contention. Jonquil Dawson passed for 133 yards and a touchdown, and ran for a score.

Dunwoody 22, Columbia 7: Dalen Claytor rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats (5-2, 4-0 Region 5-AAA, Div. A). Rashad Williams had eight tackles, one sack and returned an interception for a touchdown. Tray Lazenby had 11 tackles and an interception, Temyrick Mosley had 11 tackles and Dewayne Brown added 10 tackles. Columbia falls to 1-6, 1-3.

Tucker 43, Chamblee 12: Devin Scott rushed for 103 yards and three touchdowns for the Tigers (6-1, 5-1 Region 6-AAAA). Norman Hayes was 10-for-13 for 117 yards and two touchdowns. Chris Sanders and Quentin Brown each caught touchdown passes.

Marist 44, Miller Grove 21: Andy Perez went 9-for-13 for 125 yards and a touchdown for the War Eagles (6-1, 6-0 Region 6-AAAA). He also ran for a team-high 71 yards and a touchdown. Sam McNearny ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass, and Matt Connors rushed for three scores. Riley Snider, Cole Becker and Danny Homrich led the defense.

Southwest DeKalb 35, Lithonia 7: Ken Malcome rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns for the Panthers (6-1, 6-0 Region 6-AAAA), giving him a county-high 899 yards and 14 touchdowns on the season. Also, Marques Dixon returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and Stephen Coates score on a 20-yard run. Lithonia drops to 3-4, 3-3.

 

VOLLEYBALL

State playoffs, first round

Class AAAA

Chamblee def. Cross Creek 25-13, 25-11, 25-17: Olivia Allen led the Bulldogs (23-22) with seven kills in three games. Senior Marley Rashad had five kills and three blocks. Diamond Simpson had five service aces, and Tori Wilson led with 16 assists. The Bulldogs played at Ola on Tuesday in Henry County the second round. “This is a rebuilding year for us so we’ve made it where we need to be,” said Chamblee coach Lori Marvel Reynolds. The Bulldogs have advanced past the first round five straight seasons.

Lakeside def. Evans 25-6, 25-14, 25-20

Marist def. Richmond Academy 3-0

Class AAA

Druid Hills def. North Atlanta 25-16, 25-14, 25-4. Dunwoody, Arabia Mountain and Cedar Grove were eliminated in first-round matches. All second-round matches were played on Tuesday, Oct. 20.

SOFTBALL

AAAA First round

Marist def. Loganville 1-0, 2-0: Cameron Taylor hit a home run in the sixth inning to win Game 1. Lori Spingola improved to 24-1 with two shutouts. The War Eagles advance to the eight-team state finals beginning Oct. 22 in Columbus.
