BOYS BASKETBALL 

Southwest DeKalb: The Panthers went 3-0 last week with wins over Carver Atlanta (62-46), Tucker (57-48) and Lakeside (83-56). William Goodwin had a career-high 41 points along with 10 rebounds in the win over Lakeside. Against Carver, he had 27 points, 14 rebounds and three blocks, and Kadarius Turner added 19 points and nine rebounds. Turner led with 13 points against Tucker while Chaz Bullock chipped in 11. 

 

Columbia: Coach Phil McCrary won his 500th game last weekend as the Eagles defeated Jamesville-Dewitt (N.Y.) 55-40. Jarmal Reid scored 15 points and was named the game’s MVP. 

 

Miller Grove: The No. 1-ranked Wolverines lost their first game of the season 70-63 to Dr. Krop (Fla.) in the Marriott Invitational on Jan. 22. Tony Parker led with 19 points. Before the loss, the Wolverines beat Thurgood Marshall (Ohio) 80-60, Dunwoody 70-34 and Chamblee 66-50 last week. Parker had 18 points and 18 rebounds, and Justin Coleman had 13 points against Marshall. Brandon Morris scored 16 in the win over Dunwoody and Parker led the way with 22 points and 19 rebounds against Chamblee. Coach Sharman White praised his team for a good effort against Chamblee and got solid play from Thomas Marshall, Devon Provost and Coleman.

Dunwoody: Darrell Strozier scored a season-high 28 points in a 45-41 loss to Mays on Jan. 22 and Kelvin Brown added 10 points. The Wildcats also lost to Miller Grove and Douglass last week.

 

Stone Mountain: The Pirates beat Woodward Academy (50-43) and McNair (54-44) last week. 


Joey Imuzai scored 19 points and Antoni Dezrick chipped in 14 against Woodward. Against McNair, Jhyree Harris led with 21 points, Imuzai added 13 and Bilal Richardson had 10 rebounds.

 

Chamblee: Fred Miller scored 18 points and Sedarius Boyd added 14 points and 12 rebounds in a 56-42 win over Lithonia last week. The Bulldogs also lost to Miller Grove 66-50, with Miller leading the way with 17 points. Boyd added 12 points and Charles Savoy had 10.

 

Druid Hills: The Red Devils went 3-0 last week with wins over St. Pius (56-31), Riverwood (65-40) and Lakeside 82-73 in OT). Garrison Webb scored 41 points against Lakeside and Willie Zachary added 23. Deshon Burgess hit a basket in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime. Zachary scored 25 points and Webb added 15 in the win over Riverwood. 


GIRLS BASKETBALL 

Stephenson: The Jaguars won twice last weekend, beating Luella 57-36 and Langston Hughes 69-23. Kaliyah Mitchell, Danielle Jackson and Joylyn Stroud each had nine points against Langston Hughes. The Jaguars led 24-23 at halftime against Luella but took control in the second half. Mitchell led with 12 points, and Nuba Jackson added 10.

 

Southwest DeKalb: The Panthers went 3-1 last week. Olivia Gibbs scored 17 points and Nekia Sockwell added 15 in a 69-53 win over Carver Atlanta. Gibbs had 14 points and five steals, and Sockwell added 10 points and five steals in a 37-29 win over Tucker. In a 64-23 win over Lakeside, Persephone Goodwin scored 15 points, Shayla Davis added 11 and Sockwell had 10. Gibbs led with 10 points in a 48-39 loss to Class AAAAA Brookwood.

 

Decatur: Queen Alford had 83 points as the Bulldogs went 2-1 last week. Alford had 35 points, eight rebounds and eight steals in a 61-19 win over Clarkston, scored 18 points in a 59-44 loss to Greater Atlanta Christian, and scored 30 in a 66-32 win over Westminster. Shan Rivers scored in double digits in all three games—10 points vs. Clarkston, 12 vs. GAC and 14 vs. Westminster. Against Westminster, Ashleigh Rasheed had 10 rebounds.

 

Chamblee: The No. 2 Bulldogs remained undefeated with wins over Lithonia (69-36) and Miller Grove (70-48) last week to set up their home game against No. 1 Redan on Jan. 29. Against Miller Grove, Stanford signee Jasmine Camp led with 23 points, Bre McDonald added 21 and Lucy Mann had 18.

 

Columbia: In their only game last week, the Eagles beat Cedar Grove 63-11 as Zuri Frost led with 19 points and Destinee Smith added 15.

 

Redan: The Raiders, ranked No. 1 in Class AAAA, defeated Marist 57-33 and Carver Atlanta 68-42 last week. Aneesah Daniels had 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Kierra Paige added 12 points in the win over Marist. Against Carver, Jada Byrd scored 17 and Brea Elmore added 11.

 

WRESTLING 

North Metro Invitational, Brookwood High School

Three county wrestlers finished among the top three in their weight classes and Druid Hills was 14th among 24 teams. Yonas Wondafrash of Druid Hills placed third in the 119-pound division, Raheem Hill of Arabia Mountain was second at 160 and Joseph Ray of Druid Hills was third at 215.
