Goodwin, Parker named McDonald's All-Americans for 2012

Southwest DeKalb’s William Goodwin and Miller Grove’s Tony Parker were
recently named to the 2012 McDonald’s All-American Basketball Team and
will participate in the All-American game on March 28, 8:30 p.m.,  in
Chicago’s United Center.

There have been five previous players from schools in DeKalb County selected McDonald’s All-Americans. Miller and Parker, who will play together on the East team, are the first county selections since Dunwoody’s Chris Singleton in 2008.

Goodwin, 6-foot-8, averages 21.8 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. He signed with the University of Memphis in November 2011 and through 18 games this season has career totals of
1,405 points and 972 rebounds.

Parker, 6-9, is averaging 17.7 points and 11.2 rebounds per game for Miller Grove. He recently surpassed 1,600 points and 1,300 rebounds for his career. He also will play in the Jordan Brand All-American game April 14 in Charlotte, N.C.

Other players from selected from schools in DeKalb were Cedar Grove’s Dion Glover  in 1997, Redan’s Portia Phillips in 2006, Decatur’s Melvin Howard in 1983 and Kelly Cain of St. Pius in 2007.
