From staff reports

Oklahoma Sooners head football coach Bob Stoops announced Friday that he has dismissed freshman wide receiver Josh Jarboe from the team for cutting a profanity-laced rap video.

Jarboe starred at Cedar Grove High School, where he was one of the nation’s highest-ranked recruits.

He was charged with felony gun possession in March after a school official saw him brandish an automatic handgun in a Cedar Grove parking lot.

He was on probabtion with the DeKalb County Police Department.

“We are disappointed in this outcome, but our complete review and this final decision is in the best interest of our program” Stoops said.

“We outlined for Josh the expectations we had for him when he arrived and, unfortunately, those expectations have not been met. Josh needs to learn from this experience. We hope he can move forward in a positive manner.”

DeKalb County Athletics Director Ron Sebree said Jarboe got a second chance but blew it.

“I’m heartbroken for the young man,” said Sebree. “It shows that he needs some kind of assistance that he obviously can’t get from DeKalb County and can’t get from Oklahoma. He had a large opportunity to do something great with his life.”

OU’s players are set to convene in Norman on Sunday to begin drills for the 2008 season.
