Police seek driver in 6-year-old girl’s hit-and-run death

DeKalb County Police are asking the public to help find the driver of a minivan that struck and killed a young girl Saturday night on Buford Highway.

Sofia Ataritio-Labra, 6, was crossing Buford Highway with her 22-year-old sister when the two were hit by a tan or beige van pulling out of a business.

Ataritio-Labra was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egelston, where she later died.

Police describe the van as a Dodge Caravan 1997-2000, a Chrysler Town & Country or a Plymouth Voyager, said spokesman Marcus Hodge. “It’s very possible that there is front-end damage,” said Hodge.

Hodge said the police have video from the business where the accident occurred. Anyone with information is asked to call the DeKalb County Police at 770-724-7650.
